Girls College puts in another stellar performance

Reigning holder of the Pub2Pub ‘Top Teams’ Award – Stella Maris College - is well on the way to retaining the title. Just today their total Team Membership hit 100! Last year the College entered a Team of 119, so they’re fast closing in on their own ‘P.B.’

This is a great effort from the girls at this respected Manly College who run the Pub2Pub each year as part of their commitment to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme. They also use the event to raise funds for their favourite charity – the Happy Days Cambodian Village School – an incredible humanitarian project founded by local legend Mike Pawley.

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme was founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by Prince Philip himself and has since expanded across 144 nations. The awards recognise school students who complete a challenging program of activities that encourages self-reliance, initiative and effort.

Each year between 250 and 350 Stella Girls from Years 9 to 12 work towards their Bronze, Silver or Gold DofE Awards. Gold students (16 years and older) are offered the opportunity to complete their residential component in Cambodia… which dovetails beautifully with the great cause for which the College raises money via Pub2Pub.

In 2017, the girls have something special in store for ‘Pub2Pub Weekend’. On Saturday 26th, they’re taking part in a major hike through coastal bushland as part of the Duke of Edinburgh, before camping at Narrabeen that night. They’ll awake early the next day and make their way to Rat Park at Warriewood in time to start the 6km Pub2Pub course to round off a big weekend of exercise.

Eventually a selection of the older Stella Team Members will travel to Cambodia in November to present the money raised during Pub2Pub to the Happy Days Village School. At this stage, that amount could include $2,000 for winning the URM Schools Charity Challenge and a further $2,000 for winning the Anytime Fitness Top Teams Challenge! Way to go girls.
