The Newport runs to raise funds for R U OK?

The Newport was of course, the original finish location of the Pub2Pub when it started 25 years ago. While the Finish Line is now located at Newport Beach, many participants start their post-race celebrations at the Finish Festival before moving on to The Newport for a traditional ‘further toasting’ of their achievements.

The venue is still very much involved in this iconic community event, sponsoring the ‘The Newport Weird & Wackiest’ costume prize of $1,000 to the winner’s favourite charity. This year the venue is also joining forces with event founders, the Bayfield Family of Dee Why Hotel fame, to present a big prize in honour of the event’s 25th Anniversary.

More importantly, The Newport is also entering a Team to run the main 13km event, while raising money for R U OK?, a great cause that’s extremely close to their hearts. The 17-strong squad will run in honour of Merivale Executive Chef Jeremy Strode who tragically took his own life in July.

R U OK? is a not for profit organisation whose vision is a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. Their mission is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them and support anyone struggling with life. Asking “are you ok?” is a great place to start.

The Newport aims to raise $5,000 to help R U OK? continue the great work they do. If you want to help the Team reach its target in support of this great cause, simply visit their Fundraising Page.
